Communications and Marketing Officer, Canadian Nuclear Association

The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is a non-profit organization established in 1960 to represent the nuclear industry in Canada to promote a strong vibrant and expanding nuclear industry benefitting members, stakeholders and all Canadians.

Major Purpose
The CNA is a national voice of the nuclear industry in Canada. The primary goals of the association are to earn the trust and confidence of stakeholders, Canadians and industry leaders to enable the advancement and growth of the industry.

The CNA’s purpose is to focus and enable the dialogue on Canada’s nuclear future; Be, and to be seen to be the voice of the industry and; demonstrate member value including drawing on members to achieve goals.

The CNA offers a range of services: regulatory and government affairs; research and policy development; advocacy to advance those interests in the political and public spheres and programs and an active communications program to support the association’s objectives.

Formulating and communicating the CNA’s positions and creating dialogue on the industry’s contribution to Canada are central to achieving CNA’s vision.

General Functions
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Officer shall perform a wide range of functions in support of a national communications and marketing campaign that is anchored around launching a dialogue on the benefits of nuclear energy in Canada.

Your primary responsibilities will be the strategic management and implementation of CNA events such as CNA’s Annual Conference, speaking engagements, member meetings, and workshops. You will be responsible for marketing and media plans to promote event opportunities and to communicate outcomes of events to members, stakeholders and media. Measurement plans and feedback mechanisms will also be key components of your work.

You will work with the Communications team to support the CNA’s Social Media Program and the High School Education Program to maintain the association’s reputation and credibility as the main source of information on nuclear issues in Canada.

The Communications and Marketing Officer is an integral member of the Communications team, who will provide leadership, expertise and consultation on the planning, production, development, implementation and evaluation of communications and marketing material, including media/social media activities and website content at the CNA.

Specific Activities:

  • Maintain and distribute the CNA events calendar and propose strategies and themes for events and member engagement;
  • Develop marketing/media plans for major CNA events;
  • As part of a team, support the CNA on logistics for all events;
  • Contribute to CNA website content;
  • Establish relevant measurement program to determine the impact of marketing efforts across all channels.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications to communicate events to CNA Members, media and key stakeholders;
  • Assist the Director of Communications in coordinating Working Group and Task Force meetings and information requests;
  • Coordinate translation and other tasks related to production and dissemination of information and communications material;
  • Contribute to Budget reports;
  • Work with suppliers/consultants as required;
  • Assist the Director of Communications in developing, coordinating and distributing bilingual communications materials including speeches, media products, fact sheets, backgrounders and other products as required.
  • Provide other services as required by the Director of Communications, other Directors and CNA President.

Education

  • University degree in communications, journalism or related field or an equivalent range of education and experience; Minimum two years of communications experience.

Experience

  • Experience in communications, events and issue management
  • Experience in communications to and for a variety of stakeholders
  • Some project management experience
  • Experience in developing and maintaining web based communications (Websites, social media) for purposes of  engaging members, the media, the public and government;
  • Experience in writing and producing marketing materials and tools;
  • Experience in one or more of these policy fields is an asset: energy policy, science and technology, public safety and security, political science.

Language skills

  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English are required. A working level of French (comprehension and speaking) is mandatory.

Term and Salary
This position is a two-year term full-time assignment with the possibility of an extension. Salary range commensurate with experience.
