Economic benefits

Canada's nuclear industry provides great jobs

Did you know that Canada's nuclear industry employs about 21,000 Canadians directly, 10,000 indirectly and another 40,000 Canadians who provide supplies and services to the nuclear industry?

Many of these are highly trained positions, relatively stable and appropriately compensated. The nuclear industry is a great employer for today's workers, and will be a very good source of jobs for our children and for their children.

Qinshan

The export of CANDU reactors, such as those built by Atomic Energy of Canada at the Qinshan site in China, results in significant economic benefits to Canada.

Canada's nuclear industry provides many economic benefits to all of us

Did you also know that Canada's nuclear energy industry has revenues of about $6.6 billion? Or that it contributes $1.5 billion in federal and provincial revenues through taxes?

The industry produces about 21% of the world's uranium, and has exports of more than $1 billion per year – half of which is uranium, and the other half being goods and services. Plus, over the past several decades Canada has produced more than 50 per cent of the world's radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine for medical diagnosis. The nuclear industry helps keep our economy strong.
